The days of the comatose
indie performer are dead.. WAKE UP! It is the new Messianic Age. MACK MESSIAH is
here to resurrect music!
Kenny Crucial is the Mack, tooling around in his luxury ride preaching his
new gospel of hedonism and general all round Cruciality.
The band formed in Atlanta in 1999 and performed as Marseilles Red and
Two-Way Mirror. With the addition of multi-instrumentalist Ross Politi,
Singer/Guitarist Kenny Crucial had some new inspiration. It came to him in a
vision. Hence the band was renamed MACK MESSIAH! Alleluah.
From the moody acoustic show at Nomenclature, Kenny developed the bittersweet
pop styling of the band. Now he has the chance to really go crazy on stage. This
was shown in recent gigs at Atlanta clubs: The Earl, Echo Lounge, The Library,
CJ’s Landing, Red Light Café, Somber Reptile, and The Village.
The group is dedicated to a particular intensity of performance. At moments
this might be introspective, muted, and hook-driven. At other points the
bittersweet pop becomes a savage hard rock that occasionally breaks into the
psychedelic and experimental.
You can hear the tensions of the Yardbirds and Cream. The glam of T-Rex, Thin
Lizzy and Bowie. The early Police. Art rock and the flair of Roxy Music or
Rialto, and a touch of Sly or P-Funk. Some Iggy-a dash of Black Sabbath.
Singer Kenny Crucial offers his background in experimental performance. With
the Free Speech Movement, he did shows at 800 East, Lallapaloosa, Weekends,
Masquerade, and other art happenings. His compositions also reveal an affection
for Midwest pop. His guitar playing demonstrates a rhythmic edginess. From a
stripped-down jangly sound to a more intense rock. the sound is always evocative
and assertive. Punk origins are still evident. Henry Rollins called Kenny’s band
"Left One" of the best bands in America. Show notes described Kenny Crucial as a
local legend (Creative Loafing). A mainstay on the Atlanta club scene, he is
noted for his support offered to the local music.
Drummer Volkan Coskun is one of the founding members of Mack Messiah. His
drumming is crafted and textured. His sound is clean and precise and accentuates
the danceable quality of the sound.
Mack Messiah continues its association with artistic projects. We have played
the Dahlonega Film Festival and the MJQ premiere of the documentary "Back to
Ohio in a Body Bag". We have developed an audience in Chicago and North East
areas. We have plans to tour the Southeast and make it back to the Midwest for
some more gigs.
